Welcome to Nick of Time Foundation

Nick’s Story

It started out like any other weekend for 16-year-old Nicholas Varrenti.

A football player to his soul, Nick followed up a week of two-a-day practices with stellar performances in both the varsity and junior varsity games at his high school. He was happily looking forward to doing it all over again.

But… it was not to be. Instead, on Labor Day of 2004, Nick suffered a Sudden Cardiac Arrest.

A typical teenager and the youngest of four, Nick loved jokes, cheeseburgers, his Mom’s apple cake and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He proudly wore number 58 to signify his love of the ‘70’s style defense. He believed in the power of his blue team socks, wearing them everyday to keep a winning streak alive.

Nick was a son, a brother, a cousin, a nephew, and a grandson. He was a student, a teammate, and a best friend.

He had a megawatt smile, which could light up a room, and he died too young.

The Nick of Time Foundation was founded in Nick’s honor and keeps his name alive. We may have lost Nick to Sudden Cardiac Arrest but we vow to make his death count and are committed to keeping others with hidden cardiac problems, alive. We cannot afford to lose any more of our bright future.
