Nick of Time Foundation EKG Youth Heart Screening Program

Nick of Time Foundation provides comprehensive free heart screenings for young athletes and students to detect potentially life-threatening cardiac conditions before symptoms appear. Our thorough screening process includes a detailed Heart Health Survey that evaluates possible warning signs, symptoms, and family history of heart conditions. Each participant receives an electrocardiogram (EKG) to analyze their heart’s electrical activity, and when indicated, may also undergo a limited heart sounds examination or echocardiogram for additional cardiac imaging. Each student also learns “Hands-only CPR” and how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

What sets our program apart is immediate, expert review – all results are evaluated on-site by board-certified medical professionals who specialize in youth cardiac screening. Our program brings this life-saving service directly to schools and communities, making heart health screening accessible to young people who might otherwise go undiagnosed. Early detection through our comprehensive approach helps identify conditions like hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, long QT syndrome, and other cardiac abnormalities that can cause sudden cardiac arrest in apparently healthy youth.

We are a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization (Tax ID # 20-4200756) that relies solely on donations to continue our mission to screen every student in Washington State.  These cardiac tests would typically cost between $125 and $1,500. With your generous support, our screenings are less than the cost of a doctor’s visit copay. Your donation will help cover screening costs and support future community screening events. Donations are tax-deductible. We encourage you to stay informed, volunteer, and donate.
